March 2015 Flea Markets

March 2015 Flea Markets

March is the unofficial start of flea market season in Sacramento. The rain tapers off, mornings warm up, and vendors who sat out December through February start hauling their inventory back to the lots.

The Folsom Boulevard Flea Market stays open through winter, but March is when you notice the difference. More trucks. More tables. More of the part-time sellers who only come out when they can set up without getting soaked. By late March, a typical Saturday at Folsom Blvd will have twice the booth count of a January morning.

The Sacramento Antique Faire on the second Sunday draws a bigger crowd in March too. Vendor applications tick up, and the quality of merchandise improves as dealers bring out stock they held back during the slow months. Glassware, vintage kitchenware, and small furniture pieces are especially plentiful in early spring.

March shopping tips that actually matter:

  • Dress in layers. Morning temperatures at 6:30 AM can still be in the 40s, but by noon you will be peeling off everything you brought.
  • Bring a wagon or cart. Spring inventory means bulkier items. A collapsible wagon saves you from making five trips to the car.
  • Negotiate harder early in the season. Vendors are eager to move winter backlog. A reasonable offer on day one of the season often beats what you would get in June.

If you have been waiting for warmer weather to start shopping the outdoor markets, March is your signal. The regulars are already out there.
